Man arrested in connection with woman's death

A 23-year-old man was arrested tonight in relation to the murder of a mother-of-one in Carlow.

A 23-year-old man was arrested tonight in relation to the murder of a mother-of-one in Carlow.

Detectives investigating the death of Ciara Campbell upgraded their probe to a murder inquiry after a post mortem was carried out on her remains.

However, gardaí will not release the results of the autopsy for operational reasons.

The 22-year-old’s body was found in a house in Ardmore Gardens yesterday. Her four-year-old son Jamie, who was in the house at the time, is being cared for by relatives.

A 23-year-old man who was at the house when emergency services arrived was taken to hospital in Kilkenny where was is being treated for minor injuries.

A garda spokesman said the man was arrested tonight.

“He is being held at Carlow Garda station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984,” he added.

It is understood Ms Campbell is originally from Belfast and moved in to the rented house earlier this year.
