A toddler has died in what gardaí are describing as a tragic accident in Co Monaghan.

A toddler has died in what gardaí are describing as a tragic accident in Co Monaghan.

The incident happened at the boy's home shortly before 6pm last night.

It is understood the boy, who was almost two years old, was strangled after becoming entangled in the cord of a window blind.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Monaghan General Hospital.
