A man has died in hospital after falling ill while in garda custody in County Cork.

A man has died in hospital after falling ill while in garda custody in County Cork.

The man had been detained in Midleton town at around 6.30am this morning.

He later became ill at the local garda station, and paramedics were called to the scene.

The man, who is believed to be in his mid-40s was transferred to Cork University Hospital, however he died there in the past hour.

Officials from the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission are investigating the case.
