Chinese earthquake damages thousands of homes

A strong earthquake shook south-western China today, injuring five people and damaging about 20,000 homes.

A strong earthquake shook south-western China today, injuring five people and damaging about 20,000 homes.

The magnitude-5 quake struck in the densely populated city of Baoshan in Yunnan province, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Of the five people who were reported injured, one was hurt seriously.

About 20,000 homes were damaged and some of them collapsed.

Several school dormitories were damaged also.

Baoshan is about 1,400 miles south-west of Shanghai.
