Fine Gael want budget to cater for eircom shareholders losses

Fine Gael’s Jim Mitchell has called for the Government to introduce measures in the budget whereby eircom shareholders could offset their losses against tax.

Fine Gael’s Jim Mitchell has called for the Government to introduce measures in the budget whereby eircom shareholders could offset their losses against tax.

He believes that half a million shareholders in the company will receive cheques this week, which will confirm average personal losses of 27.5% on their investments.

Mr. Mitchell, the party’s spokesman on Finance, says individual shareholders should be treated the same way as companies.
