Five people have been rescued from the sea off the Clare coast.

The family was taken to safety by the crew of the Kilrush RNLI lifeboat, after the engine on their dinghy failed off Scattery Island.

The small boat capsized throwing the occupants into the water.

The man and woman, as well as their two young sons and one daughter, clung to the upturned boat until rescuers arrived.

The crew of the lifeboat took the family on board, before retrieving the boat.

All five people are reported to be safe and well.
