A 69-year-old man sustained head injuries after he was beaten with a wheelbrace in what police described as a vicious and frenzied attack in Belfast earlier today.
The incident happened at William Alexander Park in the south of the city when four men arrived in a car, kicked in the door to the victim’s home and forced their way inside.
They demanded car keys before striking the man with the wheelbrace. The 69-year-old also sustained bruising to his arm. His 39-year-old daughter who was in the house suffered severe shock.
As the gang left the house, two of them got into the Honda Civic car which was stolen in the Upper Lisburn Road area of the city on Saturday.
As they sped off, the vehicle hit a wall as they attempted to evade police who had arrived at the scene.
The car was later found abandoned at Summerhill Road in the Twinbrook area of west Belfast.
Police said two men were arrested at the scene of the burglary and were being questioned.
