Socialist TD Joe Higgins has revealed he clocked up just over €900 in travel expenses while campaigning against the household charge.

Socialist TD Joe Higgins has revealed he clocked up just over €900 in travel expenses while campaigning against the household charge.

The TD and his colleague Clare Daly have already pledged to repay the costs of their nationwide campaign, if it is found they should not have used their Dáil allowance during their travels.

In a statement Deputy Higgins has published all of the costs associated with his campaign travels, including figures for train fares, fuel usage and B&B accommodation.

The figure from January to June 2012 came to €935, Deputy Higgins said.

Last night the Houses of the Oireachtas Service announced that it was seeking legal advice to clarify the use of the Travel and Accommodation Allowance for TDs.
