RTE staff vote in favour of pay-cuts to save jobs

Staff in RTÉ have voted in favour of pay cuts as part of cost saving measures for the station

Staff in RTÉ have voted in favour of pay cuts as part of cost saving measures for the station.

The cuts, which will range from 2.5% to 12.5%, were presented by management as an alternative to redundancies.

A total of 57% of union members accepted the cuts, in a ballot conducted over the past 10 days.

The station expects to incur a shortfall of €68m this year.

A spokesperson says €28m have already been saved through wage cuts, changes to programming and cost reduction measures.
