Man killed in Dundalk shooting

A 35-year-old man has been killed and a man in his 30s arrested following a shooting in Co Louth in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened at Cluain Ard, Lis Na Dara in Dundalk after a taxi pulled up to a house in the estate shortly before 4am.

The vehicle was approached by a lone male who fired a number of gunshots into the car. A 35-year-old man sitting in the back seat was fatally injured.

The other occupants - the 48-year-old male driver and a 21-year-old female front seat passenger - received injuries but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

They were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes hospital to be treated.

A short time later a 32-year-old male presented himself at Carrickmacross Garda Station where he was arrested.

He is being detained under section 50 of The Criminal Justice Act.
