An explosion in Larne has been linked by police to dissident republicans.

The blast in the Britannia Crescent area last night caused damage to a fence.

There was another security alert in the same area today following a report of a suspicious object.

The road has been closed and Army bomb disposal experts have been sent to the scene.

Last night’s explosion was reported to police shortly before 11pm.

Detectives from the PSNI’s Serious Crime Branch are investigating the incident.
