Up to 100 jobs have been promised with the move of a financial services company from India to Co Kerry.

JRI America said it was shifting its software development operation from Bangalore to Tralee.

The firm, a subsidiary of Japanese financial services company SMFG, vowed to create as many as 100 “highly-skilled” jobs over the next five years.

Recruitment has already begun for positions at the plant, which will be sited at the Kerry Technology Park.

IDA Ireland, the state’s foreign investment agency, said it worked closely with the Japanese firm to secure the move.

Barry O’Leary, IDA chief executive, said they were delighted such a prestigious financial company decided to set up in Ireland.

“This is a very significant investment in Ireland by a major Japanese bank which will create a substantial number of highly-skilled positions in a hub location under the national spatial strategy, which is an important regional target for IDA,” he said.

SMFG owns Japan’s second-largest bank, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, and employs 61,555 people worldwide, the IDA said.

The Tralee operation will support the group’s western hemisphere IT operations including the US, UK and Dubai.
