Hundreds of members and supporters of anti-capitalist group Globalise Resistance today attended a conference where there was an overwhelmingly anti-war mood, a spokeswoman for the organisation said.
Around 1,200 people gathered at the event which was spread across four venues in Hammersmith, west London.
Spokeswoman Sue Jones said it was a conference for discussion rather than decision-making but the mood was overwhelmingly anti-war.
The event included forums on Globalisation, Imperialism and War, The Future of the Movement, Afghanistan, and Refugees - Scapegoats of Globalisation.
Palestinian groups spoke about the intifada, there was an Afghan speaker, and others addressing the meetings included journalist John Pilger, Vittorio Agnoletto from the Genoa Social Forum and former Labour MP Tony Benn.
Ms Jones said: ‘‘The main feeling of the conference was that people from Globalise Resistance should get behind the anti-war movement and stop the war.’’
