ISEQ on the up

The ISEQ index of shares put a lacklustre start to the week behind it this morning as it gained 25.66 points to 6172.27 in early trading.

The ISEQ index of shares put a lacklustre start to the week behind it this morning as it gained 25.66 points to 6172.27 in early trading.

All the financials were on the up this morning. AIB led the way, adding 10c to €15.05. Anglo Irish was unchanged at €17.85, Bank of Ireland gained 5c to €12.05, while Irish Life & Permanent also gained 5c to €13.65.

Independent News & Media added 1c to stand at €2.27 as it announced that it has entered into a sale and purchase agreement to acquire 26% of Indian newspaper publisher Jagran Prakashan Private Limited for €25.5m.

In this morning's statement, it also said the group enjoyed strong revenue growth across all its major markets (Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom) throughout 2004, with a strong seasonally adjusted Q4.

Meanwhile, pharmaceutical giant Elan reversed its recent downward trend, gaining 10c to €19.40 in early trading.

Bank of Ireland, Anglo Irish, DCC plc, Kerry Group plc and IAWS were this morning's most traded stocks.
