It has being reported that the Green Party accepted phone and fax votes in the contest for party leader.

This is despite the fact that members had been told that it was a postal ballot.

The Irish Independent has claimed that members who contacted party headquarters before the deadline to say they had either not received ballots, or had forgotten to return them, were told that they could vote by phone or fax.

Those who did not contact head office, however, did not know this was allowed.

Some members are reported to be angry about the move, but a legal challenge to the result is thought unlikely.
