Emile Heskey will have a scan on an knee injury sustained today, which puts his chances of playing for England against Australia on Wednesday in doubt.

The big striker limped off at half time in Liverpool’s 1-1 home Barclaycard Premiership draw with Middlesbrough, and stand-in boss Phil Thompson confirmed the injury after the game.

He said: “It looks like he has niggled his cartilage. We will send him for a scan, and he will then join up with the England squad for them to have a look at him."
