Leaving and Junior Cert students are facing a major dilemma in June. The Republic of Ireland's game against Germany in the World Cup clashes with the opening day of the State exams.

Kick-off in Ireland's second game in the competition is at 12.30pm on Wednesday, June 5.

At that time students will be answering questions in their English exam, and miss the opening and closing of the game.

The National Parents Council is calling on students to concentrate on their exams and not soccer.

So far, the Department of Education has given no indication whether it intends to alter the exam times and dates.
