Vennegoor scores winner on debut

Celtic 2 Hibernian 1

Celtic 2 Hibernian 1

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink made himself an instant hero after coming off the bench to score the winner against Hibernian and send Celtic back to the top of the Bank of Scotland Premier League.

The champions were deservedly behind to Scott Brown’s cool strike at the break.

But Lee Naylor, who was signed the same day as the Dutchman, set up Maciej Zurawski’s equaliser.

Vennegoor of Hesselink’s introduction meant the Glasgow giants carried a greater threat and the Holland international found himself in the right place to net the winner after Aiden McGeady had hit the post.
