Horse Racing: Racing off at Haydock

Haydock Park's meeting has been abandoned due to waterlogging.

Haydock Park's meeting has been abandoned due to waterlogging.

Following an inspection, course officials have decided the ground is too wet to race.

Clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright explained the situation after a decision was made before the scheduled 7am inspection.

He said: "We've had 11m of rain in the last 24 hours, of which 9mm fell last night, so it was hopeless. If there had been 2mm or so overnight then we would have been in with a shout.

"But there are extensive areas of standing water and we are currently in the middle of a hailstorm and the car park is white."
