Sinn Fein in fresh attack on Mandelson

Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuinness says Peter Mandelson was completely out of his depth when he was Northern Secretary.

Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuinness says Peter Mandelson was completely out of his depth when he was Northern Secretary.

Speaking on GMTV the North’s Minister for Education also accused Mr Mandelson of 'making a mess' of legislation to reform the RUC.

He says the reforms were clearly drafted by 'militarists and securicrats'.

Mr McGuinness says only limited progress has been made in talks with Prime Minister Tony Blair during the past week to try and get the peace process moving again.

He argues that it remains up to Mr Blair to ensure the reforms proposed in the Patten Report are fully implemented.

He is sticking to the Sinn Fein line that Prime Minister Blair had “taken his eye off the ball” by allowing Mr Mandelson a free rein in the North.
