Last season's smart novice hurdler Tazbar is set for his first run on the Flat in Monday's Phil Bull Trophy Conditions Stakes at Pontefract.
A winner of six of his 11 National Hunt starts, including two Grade Two events, Tazbar missed the Cheltenham Festival for Aintree, where he was a disappointing sixth, and he also suffered an unexpected defeat on his final outing at Perth.
Trainer Keith Reveley will look at the big staying hurdles in the winter but is keen to get the six-year-old out in the two-and-a-quarter-mile affair, where Tom Eaves has been booked.
Cleveland-based Reveley explained: "I had always planned to give him a couple of runs on the Flat and, all being well, he should run at Pontefract.
"I had him entered in a mile-and-a-quarter race at Nottingham but didn't want to run him over that kind of distance.
"I don’t expect him to win the race at Pontefract but I definitely feel he'll get the trip.
"He has done very well over the summer and he's going to have to go for the top-class races when he goes back jumping.
"I think something like the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot would be a starting point after the Flat runs."
Reveley's other good jumper Ungaro is reported to be nearly ready for a run but no targets have been selected yet.
