Taoiseach: Agreeement on bailout interest deal unlikely this week

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has today played down the likelihood of an agreement being reached on a cheaper bailout deal for Ireland at an EU Summit this week.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has today played down the likelihood of an agreement being reached on a cheaper bailout deal for Ireland at an EU Summit this week.

Mr Kenny is in Brussels for the meeting at which the Greek debt crisis is set to take centre stage.

Earlier, he pledged to raise the issue with his fellow heads of state tonight.

However, following a meeting of the European People's Party this afternoon, the Taoiseach was resigned to the fact that the interest rate issue will not be resolved this week.

"To be honest with you, I don't expect so," he said.

"While there would be a degree of discussion between the officials involving all of the countries because agreement would have to be forthcoming, I've never set a deadline on this, and I don't set one on it now."
