A policeman was killed and four other people were injured today when a parcel bomb tore through a government office in central Thailand.

The device went off on the second floor of the Social Security office in Nakorn Prathom, 30 miles southwest of Bangkok.

Bomb disposal experts were on their way to the scene when the bomb exploded, police said.

Police in Nakorn Pathom later said a second officer had died in hospital from his injuries.

Interior Minister Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said the bombing “looks more like a personal vendetta against the agency” than a terrorist attack.

Office workers had called the police after hearing a ticking sound coming from the package.
