Two people were killed today when a Spanish apartment building collapsed after a huge explosion blamed on a gas leak.

Two people were killed today when a Spanish apartment building collapsed after a huge explosion blamed on a gas leak.

The five-storey building came crashing down amid smoke and flames in the northern city of Palencia.

Mayor Heliodoro Gallego said the blast was apparently caused by a gas leak.

At least 16 other people were injured, officials said.
