Catterick off but Ludlow set to go ahead

Catterick’s meeting today has been abandoned because of frost, but Ludlow looks set to beat the weather.

Both tracks held 7.30am inspections with officials at the North Yorkshire track having no option but to call off the fixture.

“The temperature got down to minus three last night and we’d already had patches of frost from yesterday,” said general manager Jonjo Sanderson.

“There was no way the frost was going to come out of the ground in time for the first race at 12.20.

“You have to take the rough with the smooth.”

It was better news in Shropshire where Ludlow is set to go ahead after the course passed an early morning inspection.

“We’re raceable unless the weather deteriorates on us,” said clerk of the course Bob Davies.

“We’ve had a touch of frost on the surface but your heel goes straight that so it isn’t a problem.

“The temperature at the moment is zero having touched minus three overnight.

“There’s no frost in the ground. Unless the weather deteriorates we should be okay.

“The only concern probably we have is if freezing fog comes in on us.

“The forecast is for the temperature to reach six degrees this afternoon.”

The going is described as Good, Good to Firm in places.

No problems are reported at today’s other meeting at Exeter.

There is no all-weather racing today.
