After finishing fourth in this race last year, the 27-year-old ran away with the race from the half-way mark and was never seriously threatened, clinching Ireland’s second senior women’s gold medal in the history of these championships.
The Kilcoole AC athlete opened up a commanding lead from the off, attacking from the start and powering home to win in a time of 25 minutes and 55 seconds.
Portugal’s Dulce Felix was second with Britain’s Gemma Steel securing bronze.
