Greens promise new body to oversee transport projects

The Green party is promising more commuter rail services and a new National Transport Authority if it forms part of the next Government.

The Green party is promising more commuter rail services and a new National Transport Authority if it forms part of the next Government.

The agency would have responsibility for deciding on the construction of new road and rail projects.

It would also decide on routes and contracts, as well regulating all bus and train companies.

Green TD Eamon Ryan says the party wants to rebalance the situation whereby six times more money is being spent on roads than on public transport.
