Just seven shots were hit in the Spanish Open in rain-soaked Madrid today before play had to be suspended.
Torrential rain which forced the eve-of-tournament pro-am to be shortened continued through the night and it was still pouring as the first two groups were called to the tee.
Officials were monitoring conditions, though, and quickly decided they were just too bad to continue.
The delay looked set to go on most of the morning. A further announcement was planned for 10am and the afternoon starters were informed that their tee-off times were being delayed by two and a half hours.
