Wigan have announced captain Arjan de Zeeuw and fellow defender David Unsworth will be released this summer.

The announcement comes just days after Unsworth’s penalty against Sheffield United helped the Latics avoid relegation from the Barclays Premiership.

Manager Paul Jewell left the club on Monday with his assistant, Chris Hutchings, taking the reigns immediately.

And Hutchings has decided to release De Zeeuw, 37, and Unsworth, 33, as he looks to rebuild the side for next season.
