Fine Gael has urged Health Minister Micheal Martin to ensure that the Irish Medical Council acts with greater concern for the public good.

Fine Gael has urged Health Minister Micheal Martin to ensure that the Irish Medical Council acts with greater concern for the public good.

The IMC has admitted that it failed to inform the South-Eastern Health Board that a doctor accused of sexual assault was being investigated in Britain three weeks before he began a job in Ireland.

Fine Gael said the IMC cannot act "like a third house of the Oireachtas" and must be bound by Irish laws and the common interest of the public.
