Two dead as hotel collapses

A small hotel has collapsed in Turkey, burying up to 50 people.

A two-storey hotel collapsed in Istanbul early today, killing two people and burying five others under the rubble, the governor said.

Some 18 people were slightly injured during the collapse in the commercial district of Aksaray, said Governor Erol Cakir.

Rescue workers called for a doctor to amputate the leg of one of those trapped under the debris, Turkish television reported.

Hotel guests, including four Iranians, blamed vibrations for the collapse.

The underground is some 250 yards away. Authorities ordered trains not to exceed 18 mph following the collapse to prevent further damage.
