A 19-year-old man and his 18-year-old passenger were killed in Waterford when the car in which they were travelling was in collision with another car in the Hillview area at 9.15pm.

In Co Carlow a 17-year-old motorcyclist died when he hit a car at Ballinacarrig, Rathcrogue, at 10.10pm.

Another man died in Ballinasloe, Co Galway when a car collided with a wall.

The deaths bring to 322 the number of people killed on the roads this year.
