Labour accuse Govt of withholding hospital waiting lists

Labour is accusing the Government of suppressing hospital waiting list figures.

The party believes that numbers must be up given cutbacks imposed by the Health Minister, and the budgetary problems facing many hospitals. The Government has committed itself to totally eliminating waiting lists by May 2004.

Health spokesperson, Liz McManus, says the Government is trying to hide the fact they are struggling to achieve that.

"The hospital waiting lists are always published in September yet this year we are almost coming into November and there is still no sign.

"I think the Minister for Health is deliberately withholding their information and it is time that they come clean and they publish the figures. It is quite clear that the Government are not living up to their commitments."
