Sellafield a dumping ground, says MP

A British MP has said there is growing concern that Sellafield is becoming a nuclear dumping ground.

The comments came from the former Labour spokesman on the North, Kevin McNamara, at the British-Irish inter-parliamentary body meeting in Manchester.

Mr McNamara said BNFL does not appear to be honouring contracts. "The British government has said they have an obligation to take the reprocessed waste, but the British government has done nothing to enforce those contracts," he said.

"Neither has Sellafield at the present time and there is real concern that Sellafield is just becoming a dumping ground for nuclear waste from throughout the world."
