Silk

Director: Francois Girard

Cast: Michael Pitt, Keira Knightley, Tony Vogel

Strange that the critics so disliked this good-looking – and well acted – drama from the Alessandro Baricco novel. It’s a powerful love story and well worth your close attention.

The story, set in the 19th century, concerns silkworm smuggler Joncour who travels to Japan to collect a fistful of the little fellows and while there he meets and becomes obsessed with a beautiful Japanese woman. Then his wife suspects something’s not quite right.

It’s a lovely, thoughtful film … I bet you’ll like it.

Star Rating: 4/5
