Fermanagh appoint Canavan as manager
Tyrone legend Peter Canavan was officially appointed as the new manager of the Fermanagh senior footballers last night.
Canavan will be hoping to turn the Ernesiders' fortunes around after a disappointing 2011 campaign during which they finished mid-table in Division 4 and lost to London in the All-Ireland Championship.
He has been given a three-year term for his first inter-county managerial appointment, with an annual review at the end of each season.
The Red Hands' 2003 All-Ireland winning captain recently stepped down as manager of his home club Errigal Ciarán after three years at the helm.
Fermanagh native Kieran Donnelly, who was Errigal's trainer during Canavan's reign, will be the new Fermanagh team trainer and ex-Tyrone County Board coaching officer Enda Kilpatrick has been brought on board as a selector.
The Fermanagh County Board issued a short statement which read: "We are delighted to have Peter on board and wish him and the rest of the Fermanagh senior set-up the very best of luck."
A five-man appointments committee had been tasked with finding a replacement for John O'Neill whose only season in charge was marred by player unrest and poor performances on the pitch.
Former Down and Ireland International Rules manager Pete McGrath was part of the appointments committee along with Fermanagh County Board Chairman Peter Carty, Secretary Tom Boyle, Treasurer Hugh Crudden and Hurling Board Chairman Peter Bogue.
