Jonathan Woodgate has been named in the Middlesbrough squad for Sunday’s season-closing Barclays Premiership clash with Fulham at the Riverside despite suffering from a knee problem.
The classy defender will go under the knife on Monday for an exploratory operation on his left knee after playing with a ’niggle’ for the past few weeks.
Fellow defender Andrew Taylor has already had an operation on a toe condition and misses out with Emanuel Pogatetz expected to slot in at left-back. Chris Riggott is favourite to replace the Austrian and partner Woodgate in the centre. Robert Huth (ankle) is unavailable.
