The results of this year’s Junior Cert show students have performed as well as in previous years.
There is a concern however the standard in European Languages is dropping, with less "A" Grades awarded in higher level Italian and the number taking French and German down.
Science also appears to be a turn-off for young teenagers, and Fine Gael Education spokesperson Olwyn Enright thinks she knows why.
"The reason students are not taking science for the Leaving Cert is that there is a perception that they are being marked harder. Unless we get rid of this perception and unless we make science subjects more appealing to students less and less students will take them on."
