Sick Havel flies home from Gulf tour

Czech President Vaclav Havel has cut short a six-day tour of the Middle East because of ill health.

Czech President Vaclav Havel has cut short a six-day tour of the Middle East because of ill health.

He is said to be suffering from bronchitis and fever and is returning to Prague on the personal plane of the Emir of Kuwait.

Mr Havel was taken to the airport in an ambulance. He complained of chest pains while in Saudi Arabia.

The 64-year-old has suffered from health problems since an operation for lung cancer in 1996.
