Soccer: Shearer's goal was Brown own-goal

Alan Shearer’s winning strike in Newcastle’s 4-3 victory over Manchester United has been recorded instead as a Wes Brown own goal.

The former England captain had originally been awarded the 82nd-minute goal in the St James’ Park clash on September 15.

But the FA Premier League’s Dubious Goals Committee has decided that the goal should be credited to Brown.

It is the unfortunate 21-year-old’s second own goal in seven months after his accidental equaliser against Valencia in February.

He narrowly escaped another in United’s 1-1 draw at Leeds in March when the referee detected an infringement.
