Bolton in no hurry to tie up Rivaldo

Bolton were hoping to hear today whether their audacious swoop for Brazilian superstar Rivaldo has been successful.

The 32-year-old is back in South America considering his options after meeting officials of the Premiership club last week.

And his English-based agent said he remained confident that Rivaldo’s move to the Reebok Stadium would be clinched this week.

Peter Harrison said: “I’ve heard stories about other clubs but as far as I’m concerned that’s not true.

“He just wants to discuss it at home. There is no hurry because he cannot play for Bolton this season.

“Obviously Bolton want it to be sorted out as soon as possible and hopefully that will happen in the next few days.”

Bolton had initially hoped to tie up the deal by Monday but Harrison insisted the delay was not a matter for concern.

Despite being a free agent following his departure from Milan in December, Rivaldo would be ineligible to play for Bolton for the remainder of the season anyway.

And Harrison stressed that Rivaldo was using the time to make absolutely certain that his move was the right one.

Harrison added: “It is not about money. He is just making sure of his decision and everything is looking positive at the moment.”

Meanwhile, Rivaldo’s Brazilian agent also confirmed that the player had not changed his mind over a switch to the Reebok Stadium.

Carlos Arini said: “If he hasn’t said no yet, it’s because he is seriously considering the offer.

“These kind of decisions are only for him to make. I have no influence on him over this, and we just do what he wants to do.”
