Nightclub row may be behind bouncers murder: PSNI
Every nightclub where a murdered bouncer worked will be checked in a bid to hunt down his killers, detectives pledged today.
One police theory is that Brian McGlynn’s shooting may be linked to a row at one of the locations in Derry.
An incident where Mr McGlynn, 28, barred someone from entry earlier this year is being studied closely for a possible motive, sources confirmed.
The murder victim, originally from Strabane, Co Tyrone, was in bed when two masked gunmen burst into his home in Derry’s Fountain Hill area early last Sunday.
His 24-year-old girlfriend was with him and witnessed the shooting.
Although five men have been questioned so far about the killing, all were released without charge.
But as police prepared to revisit the murder scene one week on, the detective heading the investigation vowed to check with every venue who had him on their books.
The last two city clubs where he worked, the Red Rooms and before that the Metro Bar, are understood to be under particular scrutiny for any altercations.
But Chief Inspector Frankie Taylor said: “We are looking right back into this man’s history to try and find a reason to explain how he was so ruthlessly executed in this way.
“Any significant incidents in his life (will be looked at).
“Inevitably, due to his occupation, he did come into conflict at times with people.
“However, there’s no evidence at this stage that was the reason he was murdered.”
Mr Taylor stressed a number of lines of inquiry were being explored.
And he urged anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting to speak to detectives.
“We are appealing for the drivers of any cars that came down Fountain Hill into Spence Road to contact police.”
