Crossmaglen deny ‘ridiculous’ claim of biting after Ulster SFC quarter-final

10-time Ulster champions Crossmaglen have had an unnamed player accused of biting during their county quarter-final win against Erins Own Cargin yesterday.

Crossmaglen beat the Antrim club 2-15 to 0-13, but the match was marred by a melee involving up to a dozen players in the second-half.

After the match Cargin manager John Brennan claimed midfielder Michael McCann had been bitten during the row.

"We had a player who was bitten out there,” Brennan told the Irish News.

“Michael McCann was bitten on the neck and that’s why the fisty-cuffs started out there and they had another player who came in and struck.”

McCann reportedly confirmed the bite afterwards, but wouldn’t name the player involved.

But John McEntee, joint manager of Crossmaglen with Oisín McConville, rejected the accusation and criticised Brennan for showing sour grapes after defeat.

“It sounds ridiculous to me,” McEntee said. “I would have thought that John would have been magnanimous in defeat and just take it on the chin, there were a lot of incidents we could all talk about.

“It was a very clean game given the competitiveness of it.”

Crossmaglen now go on to face Kilcoo of Down in the Ulster SFC semi-final.
