Changes recommended to medical card scheme

A report recommending changes to the General Medical Scheme is due to be published later this week.

A report recommending changes to the General Medical Scheme is due to be published later this week.

The cost of the scheme rose by 30% last year and is expected to cost in the region of €1.4bn this year.

Around one-third of the Irish population benefits from the GMS, which provides medical cards to the elderly, the unemployed and those on low incomes.
