US helicopter downed in Afghanistan

A US CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed today while flying troops into eastern Afghanistan, the US military said this evening.

The fate of those on board was not immediately known.

The cause of the crash, in Kunar province, was not clear, a military statement said. Other helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft were deployed to the site, it said.
