Man injured in Co Down shooting

A man was injured in the leg after a shooting in Co Down early today.

A man was injured in the leg after a shooting in Co Down early today.

The attack took place in the Ballyhornan area of Downpatrick at about 1.15am.

The 24-year-old victim, his girlfriend and his parents were at home when a stone was tossed through the kitchen window.

When the father and son went out to investigate, a masked man stepped from the shadows and fired one shot, possibly from a shotgun, from about 15 feet away.

The young man was hit on the lower left leg, while his father was uninjured. He was treated for his wounds at Downe Hospital.

Police are investigating a motive for the attack.
