At least 21 people, including 14 schoolchildren, have died in a pair of traffic accidents in China, one a pile-up of more than 100 cars in foggy weather.

At least 21 people, including 14 schoolchildren, have died in a pair of traffic accidents in China, one a pile-up of more than 100 cars in foggy weather.

The official Xinhua News Agency said the 14 pupils died when the vehicle taking them to school plunged into a creek in the central province of Hunan. Six others were injured.

A Hengyang city government spokesman told Xinhua the weather was very foggy at the time.

In neighbouring Guizhou province, Xinhua said seven people died and 15 were injured after a truck crashed into a filling station in fog, causing a pile-up involving more than 100 cars.
