Last week, Junior Minister Conor Lenihan caused uproar when he said that the Government might not live up to its promise to provide 0.7% of GNP in aid every year from 2007 onwards

Christian Aid said the only way to prevent the matter from becoming entangled in the politics of spending estimates was the introduction of legislation to allocate money to overseas aid on an annual basis.
