Rabbitte: 'No objection' to facilitating meeting between RTE and independent broadcasters

The Communications Minister Pat Rabbitte says he has no objection to facilitating a meeting between RTE and independent broadcasters on the future of Irish radio.

It follows a call for such a meeting from the chairman of the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland at its annual conference today.

John Purcell says RTE cannot be allowed to dominate the debate or monopolise the future.

And Minister Rabbitte says he is willing to facilitate any discussion: "I certainly don't have any objection to a sutiable forum to discuss the future of broadcasting because it is in a period of extraordinary change.

"I don't have any objection to a forum being convened."
