Complaints against doctors have become more serious according to the Irish Medical Council.

Complaints against doctors have become more serious according to the Irish Medical Council.

In 2001, a total of 337 complaints were registered against doctors. According to the latest edition of the Irish Medical Times almost 50% of the complaints concerned treatment and professional standards, around 50 concerned professional standards while 48 related to standard of treatment.

Fourteen out of 21 Inquiries were completed. Within these investigations 117 complaints were registered against GP’s, 78 against consultants while just 15 were lodged against non-consultant hospital doctors.
